At age 46, she returned to us after having undergone IVF treatment nine years ago, which resulted in the birth of her first child. Under Taiwan’s assisted reproduction regulations, embryos may only be stored for up to ten years, and the storage period for her embryos was due to expire at the end of this year. Over the years, she had devoted herself to raising her child and was also concerned that she might now be too old, so she never proceeded with another embryo transfer.
At the beginning of this year, the couple came to “YunYi” and told us they were considering giving up their frozen embryos. Dr. Li Hui-Po encouraged them to think it over carefully. It would be such a pity to give up the precious embryos they had worked so hard to create, especially when they still had a chance to welcome another baby into the family and give their only child a sibling.
After much thought and discussion, they finally returned in June to proceed with thawing and transferring the embryo. Now, at six weeks of pregnancy, they have been able to see the baby’s precious heartbeat.
Her son, who accompanied her to the clinic, saw his mother and the medical team celebrating happily and became excited as well. Still, he was a little puzzled and did not quite understand what it meant that he was “going to be a big brother” 😄
