The Best Timing for Freezing Eggs Retrieved During Egg Retrieval 🧊
Yun-I senior embryologist Bi-Fang Wei explains:
Many studies have shown that 37–41 hours after the trigger shot is the optimal time for egg fertilization.
Considering that eggs need a period of recovery after thawing, if egg retrieval is performed 36 hours after the trigger shot, the best time to freeze the eggs is within 2 hours after retrieval.
Retrieved eggs can be divided into #mature eggs and #immature eggs.
Eggs must be mature before they can be frozen.
Immature eggs retrieved during the procedure may become mature eggs through in vitro culture from 2 hours after egg retrieval until the next day.
However, studies have shown that eggs matured through culture have lower thaw survival rates and subsequent cleavage development compared with eggs that were already mature within 2 hours after retrieval.
