Are Antibiotics Needed Before or After Hysterosalpingography?
Dr. Wu explains:
Some patients have asked during clinic visits whether antibiotics are needed before or after a hysterosalpingography, HSG.
The answer is yes.
In general, when patients undergo an invasive diagnostic procedure or surgery, prophylactic antibiotics are recommended for 3 days.
For patients with a history of pelvic adhesions or pelvic inflammation, follow-up antibiotics for 7 days are even more necessary.
Relevant medical journal data also provide similar recommendations.
