The optimal timing for freezing eggs retrieved during an egg retrieval procedure🧊

Senior embryologist Wei Bi-Fang at Becoming Reproductive Center explains: Many studies have shown that 37~41 hours after the trigger injection is the optimal time for egg fertilization. Considering that eggs need some time to recover after thawing, if egg retrieval is performed at the 36th hour after the trigger injection, the optimal time for freezing the eggs is within 2 hours after retrieval.

Retrieved eggs are categorized as #MatureEggs and #ImmatureEggs. Eggs must be mature before they can be frozen. Immature eggs retrieved during the procedure may mature through in vitro culture from 2 hours after retrieval until the following day.

However, studies have shown that eggs matured through culture have lower survival rates after thawing and lower subsequent cleavage and developmental potential compared with eggs that were already mature within 2 hours after retrieval.
