It has been a full year since the COVID-19 pandemic began affecting the world. Many people originally expected that because people were going out less during the pandemic, the number of births this year might increase significantly.
However, that has not been the case. In January this year, the number of newborns was 9,601, while the total population decreased by 12,603 during the same month. The expected “pandemic baby boom” did not happen, and the population continued to show negative growth.
Interestingly, during this period, the number of people choosing egg freezing has actually increased. Due to pandemic prevention measures, many people returned to Taiwan and worked from home. Some women, considering the possibility of later marriage or delayed pregnancy, or encouraged by family members, took advantage of this time in Taiwan to freeze their eggs.
This can certainly be seen as a wise decision.
