They Graduated from BRCIVF Fertility Center Today
Today, we received two non-invasive prenatal chromosomal screening reports. After reviewing the results, no abnormalities were detected in either baby.
We quickly informed the babies’ parents. They had been waiting for a long time and were very nervous, so when they learned that the results were normal, they were extremely happy 🤗
Among the women in BRCIVF’s waiting room, one-third are over the age of 40. In the first half of 2020, as many as 73% of the women undergoing egg retrieval at BRCIVF were over 38 years old.
Even so, we were still able to maintain a pregnancy rate of 57.7%, which is truly encouraging 👍
However, for women of advanced maternal age, the biggest concern during pregnancy is still whether the fetus is healthy, because the risk of chromosomal abnormalities increases as maternal age rises.
Amniocentesis can be used to check whether the fetal chromosomes are normal, but it can only be performed at 16 to 18 weeks of pregnancy.
By the time the results are available, the pregnancy is already further along. Amniocentesis also carries a certain level of risk.
Therefore, many women who become pregnant through assisted reproduction now choose to have a blood test after 10 weeks of pregnancy for non-invasive prenatal chromosomal screening.
On one hand, they hope to know the results earlier; on the other hand, they hope to reduce the risks associated with amniocentesis.
Every time we see normal test results come back, we feel just as relieved and happy as the babies’ parents.
Because this means they can graduate from BRCIVF Fertility Center 🎓 and begin their obstetric checkups 🤱🏻
To avoid the difficulties and risks associated with pregnancy at an advanced maternal age, women should begin treatment as early as possible.
For women over 38 years old with AMH below 1.2, it is important to seek professional assistance as soon as possible and consult with a physician to determine the most suitable treatment plan based on individual circumstances, with the goal of achieving pregnancy as soon as possible 💝
